St. Andrew's Cathedral, Singapore

St. Andrew's Cathedral is one of the most reputed and the largest cathedral in Singapore. This Anglican Church is located close to the City Hall in the Downtown Core, within the Central Area in Singapore's central business district. To be specific, this holy place is located in the Coleman Street of Singapore. This holy institution designed by Colonel Ronald McPherson in 1856 ultimately replaced the original church which was destroyed by lighting strikes in 1852.

St. Andrew's Cathedral, Singapore has some unique qualities. Its architectural brilliance makes it the premier contributor to the Padang and Singapore's skyline. This church has close affinity with the Mother Anglican Church in England which is reflected through three symbolic objects. These three symbolic objects are Canterbury Stone, Coventry Cross and the Coronation Carpet. All these symbols are placed in exquisite locations of St. Andrews Cathedral. The Canterbury Stone is placed in a pillar by the lectern. It was presented by the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of Canterbury. Coventry Cross on the other hand is placed on the columns supporting the pulpit. This holy cross is made from silver-coated iron nails from the ruins of Coventry Cathedral of 14th century.

This oldest church of Singapore is the beautiful sight. Set in the heart of the busy shopping area considered protected by its fence of strong iron railings, the pinnacles of the Cathedral rise high above the trees. And to experience the novel beauty, you must visit this consecrated place in Singapore.
