The 9th ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in the West Indies would
be the biggest cricket event the world has ever seen. The
largest edition of the ICC World Cup would see a total of
16 teams from five continents contesting for the title. The
ICC World Cup 2007 tournament will be held from March 11-April
28, 2007, in the scenic backdrop of the beautiful Caribbean
islands. The 9 host venues, with 11 world-class stadia, will
see a total of 67 matches (including 16 warm-up matches) played
between 16 participating teams divided into 4 groups of 4
teams.
The opening ceremony of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 will
be held on March 11, 2007 at newly renovated Sabina Park in
Jamaica, followed by the opening match of the tournament between
the host West Indies and Pakistan on March13, 2007. Before
the opening ceremony, all the 16 participating teams will
play two warm-up matches each from March 5-9, 2007.
The second
round- Super Eight Series will be held between March 27 and
April 22, while two semifinals will be played at Jamaica and
St Lucia on April 24 and April 25 respectively. The Final
of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 will be held at the world-class
Kensington Oval Stadium at Barbados on April 28, 2007.
The 16 participating teams in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007,
consist of 10 Test match playing nations and Kenya, which
has One-day international status, and five teams qualified
via the 2005 ICC Trophy. The teams have been divided into
four groups- Group A, Group B, Group C and Group D, each with
4 teams. In addition, each group has two high-ranking teams
and at least one of the 5 qualifiers to make a balance. The
top two teams from each group will then proceed to the round
robin second stage - Super 8 Series, which is followed by
knockout semi-finals and final. The two finalists will clash
for the 9th ICC World Cup title at Kensington Oval in Barbados
on April 28, 2007.
