The Irish cricket team is the national cricket team of both
the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The Ireland
Cricket Team couldn't become an Associate Member of the International
Cricket Council (ICC) until 1993, because of difficult and
uncertain political conditions in the country. The Irish Cricket
Team has participated in all 4 ICC Trophy tournaments since
1993, and were runners-up in 2005 ICC Trophy tournament. Ireland
won the ICC Intercontinental Cup in 2005 in Windhoekc (Namibia)
by defeating Kenya by 6 wickets. The Ireland Cricket Team
has been awarded the official One-day International (ODI)
status by the International Cricket Council from January 01,
2006 untill the 2009 ICC Trophy.
The Ireland cricket team will play its first official One-day
International against England in Belfast on June 13, 2006.
The team has also qualifed for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007
in the West Indies. In preparation to the World Cup, Ireland
will play several ODI's against Kenya and Netherlands in January
2007 in Kenya. Later, they will travel to UAE to play a ODI
against Scotland, followed by an Intercontinental Cup game
against the UAE at Abu Dhabi. Ireland is placed in Group D
of the ICC World Cup 2007 groupings, along with Pakistan,
West Indies and Zimbabwe. The team will play its first world
cup match against Zimbabwe on March 15, 2007 in Jamaica. Ireland named the squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 on August 25, 2006.
