British Airways was formed in 1919 with the establishment of its parent company, Aircraft Transport and Travel. The first British Airways flight was operated the same year between London and Paris. After World War II, the existent carriers of Britain flew on different routes; some to South America, others to domestic and European destinations. In 1972, the different British carriers were merged, giving rise to British Airways.
