The ultra modern stadium at Gelsenkirchen - The Aufschalke
Arena was formally opened on 13th August, 2001 with an impressive
opening ceremony. The stadium has redefined the art of building
stadiums and Europe's governing body UEFA was so impressed
by Gelsenkirchen's Aufscalke Arena that it conferred the stadium
with the maximum possible Five Star status. If the buzz around
European football scene is anything to go by, Gelsenkirchen's
stadium is in with a chance to qualify for a six star category
stadium.
An amazing feature of the stadium construction was that the
entire project was financed by private sector with no cost
to the public exchequer.
The ceremonial launch of the official emblem - "Celebrating
Faces of Football" was held at the stadium by FIFA in
the year 2002. |
