The Frankfurt stadium is a minimalist-supporting configuration,
which has adequate provisions that allow natural light through
the translucent roof. The stadium in Frankfurt with its towering
roof looks very much like a cathedral. Construction work at
this ultramodern stadium began in the year 2002. The old Waldstadion
had its share of sporting memories like the nerve wrecking
waterlogged semi-final between West Germany and Poland in
1974 and who would forget the epic Muhammad Ali vs Karl Mildenberger
bout in 1966 which was also held in this stadium.
In recent times the new stadium has successfully hosted the
FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 Final between Brazil and Argentina.
A staggering 80, 000 cubic metres of concrete and 12, 000 tons
of steel were used during the construction of the new stadium.
The underground car park can easily accommodate up to 1, 800
cars. |
