Baltimore United States

Baltimore United States was found in 1706 on the banks of the Patapsco River. Baltimore Untied Sates has grown to become one of the largest ports on the East Coast of the United States. It was originally established to transport crops produced by farmers along the Eastern Coast and cargo to and from international destinations.

Baltimore United States has a great strategic advantage in terms of location. It has a Mid-Atlantic location and an inland setting that has made it the closest Atlantic port to major Midwestern population and manufacturing centers. In addition to its geographical location Baltimore United States has long maximized its enviable locale by combining on-site, state-of-the-art facilities with efficient connections to points north, south and west. Baltimore United States is regarded to be one of America's top container terminals which provide technological advances that have transformed port operations from clipboard to keyboard,

Baltimore United States boasts of the best of modern facilities like an electronic gate complex, hand held computers and scanners and other modern equipment which reduce time and costs by a huge margin. The port is a significant economic engine for the entire region which generates $1.5 billion in revenue and employs more than 16000 Marylanders in direct jobs and another 17000 more in induced and indirect jobs.

Baltimore United States, as a cruise port has not been the best as of now. The city boasts of one regular cruise turnaround, Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas on a seasonal basis. A new cruise terminal has been built at South Locus Point. There is basic infrastructure at the terminal with a few pay phones and a snack bar. However, it is only three times away from the downtown which is closer than the previous port. The cargo terminal is also located well outside the city.

Baltimore United States boasts of some fine locations. Places of interest are the Inner Harbor where you can spend an entire day. The Harbor place is a waterfront of two buildings which is connected by a public plaza where performers can be found plying their trade on weekends. There are some 101 shops, 16 restaurants and 40 food stands. There's also a bit of history -- you can tour the U.S. frigate Constellation, which entered service in 1797. One side of the Harbor Place has the National Aquarium which features one of the largest exhibits of wall size shark tanks. Also nearby is the Port Discovery, children's museum designed by Walt Disney. You could visit Fort McHenry where the battle of Baltimore was fought in 1814 during the War of 1812. Don't miss the neighborhood of Fell's Point. Baltimore's original downtown, with its streets of Belgian blocks, seedy pubs, hippie-like boutiques and 18th- and 19th-century restored row houses which oozes ambience. You could also visit the Mt. Vernon neighborhood, also known as Baltimore's cultural heart.

Baltimore United States' strategic location and importance will help the port grow in terms of passenger traffic. For information on world cruise ports visit Travour.
