Christmas signifies spreading love and peace among fellow human beings. In Ireland, Christmas is celebrated with great fun and fervor. It is considered to be a period of joy and happiness. Dazzling Christmas lights, beautiful Christmas decorations, mouthwatering Christmas recipes and Christmas tree are the major components of Christmas celebrations.
In Ireland, Christmas is considered to be more religious as compare to fun. On Christmas Eve, people place lighted candles on windows for the guidance of Joseph and Mary who are looking for shelter. These candles are decorated with holly sprigs and are usually red colored.
There is a Christmas tradition in Ireland of baking a seed cake for each family member. For each day of Epiphany, they bake three puddings. Three days of Epiphany are Christmas, New Year's Day and Twelfth Night. There is another interesting tradition of leaving an unlatched door on Christmas evening with meal, bread and milk placed on table. This symbolizes hospitality.
